Rose City Park Neighborhood Association continues our rich tradition of hosting Candidates Fairs for neighbors and friends. This has been one of our most popular events for over 15 years and we anticipate this year will be our best to date. We have invited all of the candidates for State Senate, State Representative, Mayor and Portland City Council. Each will be allowed to give a short speech and take questions from the audience. Because of the great number of prospective candidates, they will be limited to about five to six minutes. The Neighborhood Board has also decided to only allow the candidates themselves to speak and hope that conflicting schedules will not limit the attendees. We have seen attendance at this event exceed 100 and hope that our neighbors will take the time to hear what each of the candidates has to say. We have seen record turnouts across the country for the Presidential candidates, with unprecedented excitement and energy. Oregon, Portland and Rose City Park should follow suit and support this important elective process. Please come and be an active participant in our democratic process.

Following the election theme, Rose City Park Neighborhood Association will take nominations for neighborhood Board members and officers at the March meeting. Further nominations and elections will be at our General Meeting, May 27. Please consider volunteering for a position on the Board. It could be a one year commitment with only six Board and five General meetings to attend. You could participate on one of our many committees - Land Use, Transportation, Environmental, Newsletter, Airport Noise, Random Acts of Neighborliness - or help at one of our events such as the Neighborhood Clean-up (May 31), Roseway Heights Picnic, or Rose City Park Concert Series. It is a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors, meet new and interesting people and give back to your community. We all could spare a little extra time to make Rose City Park an even better Neighborhood and preserve our great livability that we all cherish so much.
