To Our Readers and Advertisers
Rare among Portland’s neighborhood newsletters, each issue of ours is hand-delivered by volunteers to over 4,000 homes, apartments, and businesses. We pride ourselves on providing this service, and are committed to continuing it for the foreseeable future even as we find ways to better use our rcpna.org website and other online tools to gather and share neighborhood news.
Publishing the hard-copy newsletter is one of the largest expenses in the RCPNA budget, so in order to continue doing so we have been exploring ways to reduce our costs. In addition to skipping a newsletter issue as a result of RCPNA now holding one fewer General Meeting each year (see “RCPNA Summer Highlights,” page 2), we will also be making a change to how the newsletter is printed.
Beginning with the January 2010 issue, we will print the newsletter on newsprint and at a slightly smaller size. We will also make changes to the layout of the newsletter to freshen it up and make the best use of the new paper and sizing.
This change will save us money on printing costs without significantly reducing the amount of news and ads we can publish. Therefore, while the format of the hand-delivered newsletter will be different, it will remain a unique and excellent way to connect with our readership of thousands to spread the word, toot your horn, or pitch your product, service, or cause.
We are excited about the change, and hope you will be too. We will work with our advertisers and contributors to make sure the transition is a smooth one. Feel free to contact me at editor@rcpna.org if you have a comment about this or other newsletter matters.
Thank you for reading and supporting our RCPNA neighborhood newsletter!
