News from Neighborhood Schools
Roseway Heights School
Roseway Heights School, located at NE 73rd Avenue and NE Siskiyou Street, got off to a great start in its third year as a kindergarten-through-eighth-grade school. Seventy-two kindergarten students joined us this fall, and we have steady enrollment at all other levels, with two to three classes per grade.
Over the summer, the old leaking roof on the building was replaced. At the same time, solar panels were installed so that we are now generating a significant portion of the energy we use each day. For more information about this cool project, check out www.pps.k12.or.us/news/813.htm.
In addition to our strong academic curriculum, with money raised through Run for the Arts and the Roseway Heights Foundation (sponsors of our annual auction), we are able to offer students a robust arts program this year. Children from kindergarten through the fourth grade are taking music classes with Crystal Meneses. Third- through fifth-graders are studying drama and producing plays with Marjorie Anderson. Finally, sixth- through eighth-graders have the opportunity to study music and drama and work with a muralist either during the school day or after school.
Upcoming events at Roseway Heights include Grandparents and Special Friends Day October 16 from 12:45 pm to 2 pm and our annual Carnival on Friday, November 13 from 6 pm to 8 pm.
PTA meetings are held at 6:30 pm on the second Tuesday of each month in the school library. They are open to all community members. Please stop by and join us!
