2024 Concert: Saturday, July 27th, 6:00-8:00 PM
Rose City Park (NE 62nd Ave. and NE Thompson St.)
The RCPNA Concert in the Park on Saturday, July 27th, will be a night of fun times and good tunes featuring local cover band, Covered Structure, playing iconic cover songs from 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond. In addition to live music, there will also be ice cream for sale, and complimentary face painting and balloon animals for the kiddos.
Covered Structure
Forged in the school pickup line at Laurelhurst K-8 School, Covered Structure is the (self-proclaimed) “preeminent parent-rock band” of NE Portland. Your new favorite local band is comprised of Kristin Hutchinson (vocals/keyboard), Matt Hutchinson (bass), Dave Artis (lead guitar), Shai Rosenfeld (rhythm guitar), and Justin Huguet (drums) — all legends in their own right, but much like Captain Planet, their powers combine to create something omnipotent: the super group known as Covered Structure. And the brilliant name? Covered Structure was dubbed in honor of the school playground’s “covered structure” under which kids play during recess on rainy days. And the band plays cover songs… get it? 🙂
So pack a picnic and mark your calendars for the the evening of Saturday, July 27th at Rose City Park from 6:00-8:00 PM -- admission is free! Enjoy a fun mix of favorites from artists like Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Talking Heads, The Beatles, Pearl Jam, R.E.M., and much more! It's a night you won't want to miss!

2023 concert info: July 22, 6-8pm
Featuring ClusterF*lk
The RCPNA Picnic in the Park Concert on July 22, 2023 promises to be a night of foot-tapping, head-bopping fun with the talented ClusterF*lk taking the stage. Composed of Dave Monro on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Keith Johnson on drums, Matt Gantz on guitar, and Daniel Manuszak on bass, ClusterF*lk is an Americana rock n' roll band that has been playing together for four years. The band's musical influences include Jason Isbell, Tom Petty, and James McMurtry, and they embody the American rock n' roll singer-songwriter style in their music.
ClusterF*lk recently recorded several new songs which are now available on Spotify, and they have been playing in various local establishments around town. But their beginnings are much humbler than that. In fact, they started by playing in Keith's front yard right here in Rose City Park, providing some much-needed relief during the last three years of social distancing. They quickly became popular with their neighbors, and their fame grew from there. Check them out on Instagram @cluster.folk, and give their music a listen on Spotify. You won't be disappointed.
The RCPNA Picnic in the Park Concert is the perfect venue for ClusterF*lk's lively music, and it promises to be a great night out for the whole family. The concert is scheduled for July 22, 2023, from 6-8 pm at Rose City Park, and admission is free for everyone. So, pack a picnic, bring a blanket or lawn chairs, and settle in for an evening of great music. It's a night you won't want to miss! Mark your calendars!
2022 concert info: July 23, 6-8pm
On July 23rd from 6-8pm, RCPNA will host Lil’ Queenie for our annual Picnic in the Park Concert at Rose City Park. The concert will be set amphitheater-style in the northwest corner of the park near the playground, and neighbors are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnics to the show.
While you may think Lil’ Queenie is a reference to Linda LeClair and her baritone saxophone, it’s actually a reference to the Natchez trace variety of blues developed in New Orleans which permeates the band’s set-list to guarantee that every show has folks dancing – or at least bopping their heads. The seven fellas that join Linda on stage, Mark La Rue Todd, Eldo Caddy, Bill Lamb, Tim Helm, David Mitchell, and Max DeSax, supply the vocals, guitars, keyboard, trumpet, drums, and saxophone for the 1960’s hits and original songs, too. You can learn more about Lil’ Queenie and get a preview of their sound on Facebook, YouTube, or on their homepage: www.lilqueenie.net.
We can’t wait to sing, dance, and mingle with you on July 23!
RCPNA’s 2022 Picnic in the Park Concert was made possible by a Central Northeast Neighbors (CNN) Small Grant award facilitated through the City of Portland Office of Community and Civic Life. We are thankful to live in a neighborhood and City that supports bringing music and events to our residents and their guests. RCPNA is acquiring a Noise Variance Permit to provide amplified music in a public space and while we would like to jam all night, the show will end at 8pm to respect our neighbor’s evening quiet time. Members of the RCPNA Board of Directors and various committees will be on-hand to answer questions and share Association updates.
