Join our e-mobility ride event. e-bikes are a ton of fun! One more date!

Did you know e-bike rentals are available in Rose City Park Neighborhood? They are! This summer, RCPNA Vice-Chair Zachary Lauritzen is leading three rides to introduce neighbors to the joy and utility of electric mobility. The three dates are all on Saturdays: June 18th, July 16th, and August 13th. We will meet at 9:15am, depart at 9:30am, and return at 10:30am. Location to be announced.

If you have not yet ridden one: e-bikes are a ton of fun! They give that extra boost that flattens hills, allows you to carry more weight (groceries, children, etc.), and to do so without getting sweaty. There are a few goals to these summer rides:
1. Introduce people to the process of how to rent an e-bike.
2. Tour some safer street routes in and around Rose City Park.
3. Experience the ease and joy of electric-assist travel.
4. Meet your friends and neighbors.
5. Get to know eco-friendly modes of transportation for getting around our community.

All participants will receive free rides for the day courtesy of a partnership with Niketown. Part of the program is learning how to sign up and rent the bikes. Anyone who can ride an adult-sized bike is welcome. Bring a helmet if you have one, though some will be provided. If you want to participate, please email Zachary at bethegreenorg@gmail.com. As event dates near, he will send out the details for each ride.

Please sign up for one or more activities using our SignUp Genius.  The more folks that volunteer, the easier, and more fun, the effort will be.  For more information about the concert please check out our Picnic in the Park Concert page.

Please let us know if you have any questions by reaching out at events@rcpna.org.  We can’t wait to see you at the concert!

Free Summer “Picnic in the Park Concert” – July 23rd

Free Summer “Picnic in the Park Concert” featuring Lil’ Queenie

Rose City Park
NE 62nd Ave. and NE Thompson St.

2022 concert: July 23, 6-8pm

Please join us July 23rd from 6-8pm, as RCPNA hosts Lil’ Queenie for our annual Picnic in the Park Concert at Rose City Park. The concert will be set amphitheater-style in the northwest corner of the park near the playground, and neighbors are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnics to the show.

Read more about Lil’ Queenie on our Summer Concert page

We can’t wait to sing, dance, and mingle with you on July 23!

RCPNA’s 2022 Picnic in the Park Concert was made possible by a Central Northeast Neighbors (CNN) Small Grant award facilitated through the City of Portland Office of Community and Civic Life. We are thankful to live in a neighborhood and City that supports bringing music and events to our residents and their guests. RCPNA is acquiring a Noise Variance Permit to provide amplified music in a public space and while we would like to jam all night, the show will end at 8pm to respect our neighbor’s evening quiet time. Members of the RCPNA Board of Directors and various committees will be on-hand to answer questions and share Association updates.

Why Frazer? Frazer Park has been chosen for the Tree Mulching Event due to its proximity to numerous multi-family apartment complexes, the closest public park to the Hollywood Neighborhood (which has none), it houses the neighborhood’s Community Garden, an off-leash dog area, and it abuts the Owen Blank Early Head Start School. The attached map indicates that over 200 multi-family residents live within ½ mile of Frazer Park. This park serves families with the least economic means living in and around our neighborhood. The park itself houses a number of mature trees that were planted as “the orchard” for the Boy’s Home that previously resided at this site. Over the past year a 60’ white pine tree had to be removed due to heat damage. The 3 remaining pines remain damaged by last year’s scalding from the heat dome event.

Chip-Drop Brigade Purpose:

The goal of the ChipDrop Brigade is to serve as volunteers for coordinating, delivery, and spreading of wood-chip mulch to cover the root base of trees located in publicly owned areas, such as public parks and street trees in rights-of-way. This action together with educating the residents of proper watering of trees during the dry months can greatly extend the life of these trees. The 2021 heat-dome event brought home the reality that the lives dependent on a healthy tree canopy is in jeopardy.  Not only did the heat dome blanch many of the native trees, the drying winds and sustained drought during the summer reduced moisture content for all vegetation.  Many of the trees that remain are struggling to regain their health during the recent spring rains. It is our hope that through applying mulch and educating the public about proper watering, these trees will have a better chance at survival.
